CBS DETROIT - With another All-Star Game ballot update approaching, the Detroit Tigers have pulled out all the stops to try to reverse the current situation at first base, where at last count Eric Hosmer of the Kansas City Royals had over 500,000 more votes than Miguel Cabrera, a two-time MVP and Triple Crown winner whose numbers this season have been staggering as usual.
Since that update a week ago, the Tigers have stepped up their Twitter campaign, added signs on and around the field encouraging fans to vote, and outfitted team personnel in bright orange "Vote Miggy" shirts before games.
With the latest voting update expected to be released Monday afternoon, the Tigers made another attempt to drum up votes for Cabrera, sending to fans an email with a letter from starting pitcher David Price - and Price's supremely popular dog Astro.
This is not the first time Price has gone out of his way to implore fans to vote for Cabrera. A few days after last week's update was announced, he took to Twitter to announce his indignation with the system.
Cabrera currently has a .341 batting average and has already blasted 14 home runs. His .444 on-base percentage and 1.036 on-base-plus-slugging percentage are both the best in the American League.
