Coyote Trapping In Royal Oak Results In Backlash
ROYAL OAK (WWJ/AP) - A man hired by a homeowner's association to trap coyotes in metro Detroit says he's received death threats amid backlash about his work.
Dennis Cronk, a state-certified trapper who works with Waterford-based Critters Be Gone, was hired by the Arlington Park homeowner's association in Royal Oak after about dozen homeowners complained about coyotes displaying aggressive behavior, according to WXYZ-TV.
City officials said they received numerous calls from "individuals from Novi to Shelby Twp." who were upset about a video the station broadcast, which showed a coyote that Cronk trapped on private property last week. Cronk uses humane traps with rubber jaw footholds that don't have any metal parts.
Royal Oak Police Chief Corrigan O'Donohue briefed city commissioners Monday night following questions about coyotes in the community. He said he met with Cronk, and ensured commissioners a state-approved method of trapping coyotes was being used.
City officials say there will be no trapping on city land and that any trapping in Royal Oak was commissioned by private homeowners.
