Cops Warn Drivers About Police Impersonator Spotted On I-696
FERNDALE (WWJ) - Authorities are warning southeast Michigan drivers about a possible police impersonator.
On Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 7:40 a.m. Michigan State Police received a call about a phony traffic cop in the area of I-696 and Hilton Road.
The caller said he was traveling eastbound on the freeway when he became involved in a road rage dispute with another driver — in an Oldsmobile four door vehicle — who eventually pulled up behind him with red and blue lights flashing.
The caller said he exited the freeway and the Oldsmobile followed, but then pulled around the caller and reentered the freeway.
The suspect is described as a white male approximately 30 to 35 years of age.
In light of this incident, state police want to remind drivers that MSP do not use unmarked vehicles to conduct traffic enforcement.
If you are not sure if the vehicle stopping you is a police officer, police urge motorists to maintain a safe speed, turn on their hazard lights and call 911. The dispatcher will be able to assist you in determining if it is a real police officer.
