Confirmed: Rapper Dex Osama Killed Outside Detroit Strip Club

DETROIT (AP/WWJ) - Authorities are confirming that a man killed outside a Detroit strip club was a 21-year-old local rapper known as Dex Osama.

The medical examiner's office says Osama's real name was Byron Cox. An autopsy is planned Tuesday.

Detroit Police Sgt. Cassandra Lewis says the shooting occurred at around 1:30 a.m. Monday outside Crazy Horse Gentleman's Club at Michigan. A fight spilled out onto the street from inside the club before shots were fired, according to reports.

A second man who was shot was last reported in serious condition.

Freddy Abdallah, who owns Crazy Horse, says he's unhappy with the violence but there's not much he can do about it.

"Unfortunately Detroit is a high-crime city, they all have guns," Abdallah said, "so I can't control what happens after they leave. Does it upset me that it's going on? Of course it does."

No arrests had been made as of Tuesday morning.

In one of his final tweets Cox on Sept. 5 announced that he had quit smoking, hadn't had a drink in two weeks and was "done with the drugs." He would have turned 22 on Sept. 13.
