Community Rallies Behind Wrestling Coach Who Was Fired

ROGERS CITY, Mich. (AP) - Parents and former wrestlers in a small northern Michigan community are rallying behind a high school coach who was fired after putting a student's jacket in the trash.

The Alpena News says dozens of people attended a meeting of the Rogers City school board Monday night and pleaded for Pat Lamb to get his job back.

Lamb says he regrets putting a student's jacket in the trash, an act that was recorded on video. He says it was a moment of anger because the student owed him money and had been dishonest about it. Besides being the wrestling coach, Lamb was a school custodian.

More than 30 former wrestlers are supporting him.

Superintendent Lee Sandy says he's not surprised by the praise for Lamb but won't reinstate him.
