Community Members Rally To Find 'Predator' Who 'Terrorizes' Children
DETROIT (WWJ) -- Community members went door-to-door in one Detroit community on Memorial Day as they work to help police find the suspect behind four separate incidents, including two attempted abductions.
In other cases that took place, the suspect exposed himself to young girls in the area of West Chicago and Evergreen on the city's west side. Community Activist Malik Shabazz said that community members along with officials need to work harder to keep children safe.
"We cannot allow our children to be terrorized," Shabazz said. "We have terrorism right here when children -- when little girls -- cannot go to school in peace. We have a problem."
Shabazz said that by going door-to-door, they are also spreading awareness about the incidents so others can be on the lookout.
"We want to alert the public that there are predators preying on our children," Shabazz said. "We don't want any young girls alone -- travel in groups, everybody get a whistle and keep a whistle around your neck."
Shabazz said that they want to help Detroit police and Crime Stoppers find the suspect to put him behind bars.
"We're looking for people to help us -- metro Detroiters -- to join on board to help us, to clean up Detroit," Shabazz said. "As Detroit goes, Wayne County goes. As Detroit goes, Michigan goes. So we all should have skin in this game."
