Community Connect Spotlight: Friends of Camp MAK-A-Dream

Southfield (CW50) - Camp MAK-A-Dream's founders used the money from owning McDonald's franchises to buy a ranch and have sick kids come work it during the summer. The plan changed and the founders cut out 87-acres of land to form Camp MAK-A-Dream, a camp for children, teens, young adults, and adults who are touched by cancer.

On this week's COMMUNITY CONNECT, Lisa Germani talks with Pete Grimes Executive Director of Camp MAK-A-Dream about how the camp continues to help people with cancer today.

The camp has a program that is for the siblings of kids with cancer, because when someone is diagnosed with cancer, everyone in the family is going through it together and need a support system as well.

The kids do not have to be in active treatment and can be in recovery. There is a medical facility on the camp for those in active treatment.

Activities at the camp include: An archery range, a pool, high ropes course, hiking, in-door activities. All activities are from sun up to sun down.
