Chelsea Bruck's Family Asks For Sensitivity As Hunt Intensifies; 'This Isn't A Detective Show'

MONROE (WWJ) It was described as part of her Halloween costume, but family members say they only know "fabric" was found at the site in Flat Rock that may be connected to Chelsea Bruck's disappearance.

The family continues to ask for help, but they also asked for some sensitivity as the hunt for Bruck's whereabouts seems to be intensifying.

Bruck, 22, of Maybee, was last seen at about 3 a.m. on Halloween at a mega-party in Monroe County.

"This is our lives, not a police show, not a detective show, this is our reality and it's not like TV," said Leannda Bruck, Chelsea's mother, who also asked people to stop speculating about what happened over fears future evidence could be tainted.

Bruck's mother and sister Kassandra Bruck will be discussing the latest developments in the disappearance case later this morning with WWJ's Mike Campbell and other reporters at their search headquarter on Swan Creek Road in Newport.

Something that looks like a break in the case came when Monroe County Sheriff's Office detectives responded to Flat Rock on Monday regarding a tip related to the Bruck investigation. Detectives searched an abandoned industrial site consisting of approximately 60 overgrown acres, formerly known as Specialty Petroleum, on Peters Road south of Van Horn Road.

Detectives from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and the Michigan State Police Monroe Post executed a search warrant and "collected clothing and other evidence related to Chelsea Bruck."

The collected items were sent to the Michigan State Police Crime Lab for forensic analysis.

On Monday, detectives continued searching the site for additional clues and evidence.

Police have received hundreds of tips since Bruck vanished, and two people are charged with lying to investigators.

Last month, officials searched Pointe Mouillee Game Area.

The sheriff's department has said there's no evidence Bruck was hurt or killed, but her Oct. 26 disappearance has prompted searches in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. Bruck attended the party in Frenchtown Township dressed as the comic villain Poison Ivy and was wearing a leaf-covered top and dark purple wig when she was last seen by friends at the party.

Meanwhile, a Facebook page has been set up and friends and family have blanketed southeast Michigan with fliers, T-shirts, buttons and yard signs bearing her image and affixed purple ribbons to trees, poles and mailboxes in an effort to find her.
