Cars Struck By Bullets On I-94 And I-69, Authorities Confirm

TEKONSHA, Mich. (AP/WWJ) - Authorities are investigating multiple reports of shots being fired at cars on Interstate 94 and Interstate 69 in southwestern Michigan.

The Calhoun County sheriff's office said the damage was initially blamed on unspecified "projectiles" — but a closer look at some vehicles confirmed that the damage was from gunshots.

The incidents happened between July 29 and Aug. 21 in Calhoun and Branch counties. More specifically, they occurred on I-94 between 11 Mile Road and I-69 between Battle Creek and Marshall; and also on I-69 between M-60 and Jonesville Road, south of Tekonsha.

Calhoun County Sheriff Matt Saxton told 24 Hour News 8 that all of the reported incidents — at least five — happened in broad daylight.

He believes the shootings were intentional and that they are all connected. Although, he said, investigators are still unsure if they're looking for one or multiple shooters.

No injuries have been reported.

A task force — including officers from the Michigan State Police and several other law enforcement agencies — is working on the case. Anyone with information can call the Silent Observer at 269-781-9700. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
