CBS DETROIT - Detroit Tigers star Miguel Cabrera has been cleared to begin baseball activities, he tweeted Wednesday afternoon. Cabrera, who underwent surgery on his right ankle and foot in October, had gone for a final follow-up appointment Tuesday and received the green light Wednesday.
The Tigers made it official a few minutes later.
"Dr. Robert Anderson's review of Miguel Cabrera's CT scan displayed a good progression of healing," the organization stated in a press release. "Miguel has been cleared to initiate non-impact baseball activities including hitting and throwing, and will begin a running progression until full weight-bearing is achieved. While there is no definitive timetable, it's optimistic Miguel could be ready close to opening day."
Cabrera was the first to break his good news, tweeting that he was thanking God because he can now begin his activities.
Back in October, Dr. Robert Anderson removed bone spurs in Cabrera's ankle and repaired a previously unknown stress fracture in his foot. Hampered by those injuries in 2014, Cabrera recorded a batting average of .313 and hit 25 home runs and an American League-best 52 doubles.
