Burning Body Found Near Dumpster Fire In Southfield Alley

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Police in Southfield have more questions than answers after a man's body was found on fire near a burning dumpster in an alley.

The discovery was made around 1:22 a.m. Saturday along Greenfield Road and Cambridge Avenue, just north of 11 Mile Road.

A Berkley Police officer who was in the area observed smoke emanating from behind Alia's Catering and Eatery. When the officer investigated further, he found a deceased white male, approximately 40-50 years of age, lying in the alley. Both the man and a nearby dumpster were on fire.

The Southfield Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the flames.

Investigators are working with the Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office to identify the victim. A cause of death wasn't immediately clear.

Police are looking to speak with anyone who was in the area around the time the body was discovered. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 248-796-5500.
