Bond Set At $200,000 For 14-Year-Old Detroit Boy Accused Of Trying To Kill Mother

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A 14-year-old boy is being held in a Detroit juvenile detention facility on a $200,000 bond in the shooting of his mother.

A preliminary hearing was held Thursday for the boy, who is charged with assault with intent to murder and felonious assault. His next court date is June 30.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office has said he will be tried as a juvenile, but could be sentenced as an adult if convicted. He also could be given a blended juvenile and adult sentence if found guilty.

Police have said the boy's 38-year-old woman was shot at least twice on June 11 during a disagreement at their home, located in the 15000 block of Wisconsin. The gun also was pointed at the teen's brother. The woman received treatment at a local hospital and is expected to recover.

The teen was arrested after a 15-hour manhunt when officers saw him walking through a neighborhood in the area of Appoline and Keeler streets.

The boy's name is not being released because he is being charged as a juvenile.
