Body Found In Burning Car On Detroit's East Side

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities are investigating a possible homicide after a body was found inside a burning car on Detroit's east side.

The situation unfolded early Thursday morning when police and fire crews were called to an alley near East Grand Boulevard and Goethe Street, near Mack Avenue.

The body was so badly burned, officials said they couldn't immediately tell if the victim is a male or female. The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office is expected to identify the body and determine a cause of death.

Reporting live from the scene, WWJ's Mike Campbell said the car appears to be a newer-model Chevrolet Camaro convertible. It was parked in front of a vacant, boarded-up group home.

Sourced tell WWJ the car was from a rental agency and had a Virginia license plate.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 313-267-4600.
