Bibles Burned By Vandals In West Michigan Church Break-In
GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP/WWJ) - Suspects are being sought after a break-in and vandalism at a church in western Michigan.
The Holland Sentinel reports the front door was pried open about 3 a.m. Sunday at Georgetown Protestant Reformed Church in Ottawa County's Georgetown Township, near Grand Rapids.
Books and other church literature were found thrown around the lobby; and, church leader Randy VanOverloop told TV station FOX-17, some Bibles were burned.
Fire extinguishers were discharged in the pew seating area of the church.
Sheriff's officials said a witness had called to report hearing loud noises coming from the church and spotting several suspects sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot around 3 a.m. Sunday.
Investigators later found that someone had pried open the church's front doors to get inside.
It does not appear that anything was stolen, and authorities have not talked about a possible motives.
There have been no arrests and tips are being sought from the public as the investigation continues.
