Find the Dream Cruise along Woodward Avenue from Ferndale up to Pontiac on Saturday, Aug. 18. It's billed as a one-day event, but car fans will tell you it really lasts all week -- or longer. If it runs, you'll see it, and if it doesn't, it may be parked at the side of the road with plenty of admirers. The Dream Cruise attracts upwards of 1 million visitors a year from all across the globe, who pack the sidewalks with rows upon rows of lawn chairs. The hub of the event is at 13 Mile and Woodward in Royal Oak, but the entire loop goes from Ferndale to Pontiac, and includes Berkley, Royal Oak and Huntington Woods.

The Henry Ford Museum is the original car museum, with the Model T to the presidential limos that carried Theodore Roosevelt to John F. Kennedy. It's more than just cars. It also has plenty of other exhibits featuring agriculture, aviation, clockwork, jewelry, and more. It will take a good day to go through the nine acres of history and innovation. If you live in the Detroit area, this is a must see.

The 55,000-square-foot Walter P. Chrysler Museum features three stories of more than 65 antique, custom and concept vehicles interspersed with interactive displays and historical exhibits that tell the story of the automaker's contributions to automotive design, technology and innovation. This museum has only been open a few years so it's still new to most folks and is well worth the visit.

Hudson, Tucker, Kaiser-Frazer - names out of the automotive past. Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage Museum includes 30 vintage automobiles with a historical connection to Ypsilanti. The collection goes from the 1933 Hudson Terraplane K Series Coach up through a 1991 Chevrolet Caprice Police vehicle manufactured at Willow Run. The museum also includes Miller Motors, a fully preserved pre-war automobile dealership serving America's vintage Hudson fleet.
