When it comes to top-notch golfing in Metro Detroit, no name holds more weight than the Oakland Hills Country Club. Many of the best golfers throughout the history of the sport have golfed here at one time or another, including Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan and Gary Player. In addition, the Oakland Hills Country Club has been host to 16 Major Championships, such as the Carling World Open, the Western Open, the 35th annual Ryder Cup, as well as three PGA Championships, including the highly-publicized 90th PGA Championship back in 2008. The Cherry Creek Golf Club is one of northern Detroit's most beautiful clubs. Their elegant country club is a prized location for weddings and other ceremonies due to its refined ambiance, but the grounds, all 6,784 yards of them, are also quite stunning. Paying for a round will get you access to the club, which in itself can be worth the trip, but the links are a golfer's dream. Cherry Creek is not as expensive to play as other options, costing around $50 until the peak of summer when prices can rise a little, especially on weekends, but the experience is well worth it.

Touted as "Metro Detroit's Top-Rated Golf Club," The Orchards Golf Club is one of the east side's most popular courses to play these days. With some of the top ratings from both public players and golfing professionals and enthusiasts alike, this course in Macomb County definitely has a loyal following of devoted golfers. With 525 acres of stunning links, including some rewarding and challenging holes, it's no wonder why The Orchards is considered one of the best. It is recommended that you book your tee time in advance, especially in peak summer months, as getting a spot at this club can be a hassle at times (though it is well worth it).

Golf Digest recently-rated the Shepherd's Hollow Golf Club as the 42nd best golf club in the country, and stepping foot onto its wide expanse, it doesn't come as a surprise. With 27 amazing holes, this golf club is no small feat. A relatively new course, only open since 2000, this natural wonder tucked close to Arthur Hills is a steal in the early spring months and off-season times at $45 a trip, but jumps to $85 for peak summer weekend times. Though the cost is a little higher, Shepherd's Hollow is well worth it, giving experienced golfers a worthy assortment of links and breathtaking views to boot. As the owners say, "This course requires thought and imagination," which makes it all the more a worthwhile experience.
