Some people may think the age of drive-in theaters has passed us by, but in the metro Detroit area, a few theaters are still alive and thriving. Check this list for the best drive-in theaters in the area.

All of the movies shown are digital, and you pay one price for a double feature (two movies). The theater opened in 1951 and has five screens; it is able to seat 3,000 cars in total. The venue is open year-round, and has some bargain nights, as well. To hear the movie's audio, you can tune in on your radio or use the venue's mounted speakers.

summerdrivein.comCompuware Arena Drive-In is part of the Compuware Sports Arena complex in Plymouth, and has three screens that feature first-run, double-feature movies, seven nights a week. Prices are $10 for adults, $8 for children ages four to 12 and free for children who are three years old and younger; the theater also offers $8 for students as a special during weekdays. You can also bring your own snacks and drinks. Compuware sets up three screens during the summer, and the theater is also available for birthday parties, which are $14/per person and include a movie ticket, pizza, Pepsi and more. The theater also does business outings and accepts reservations for sports teams, youth groups or a girls' or friend's night out. Prices are $8 for groups of 15 or more, and special pricing on food/beverages is available; keep in mind that these must be arranged at least 48 hours beforehand,
US 23 Drive-in Theater

The theater provides lawn chairs for rent, too, and also glow sticks if you forget a flashlight. Prices are $8 for adults, $6 for children ages three to 12 and children ages two and younger are free; all prices are for double features, as well. The theater has newly expanded its concession menu, and it serves everything from freshly grilled burgers, to cotton candy, to chili cheese fries and nachos. It also accepts credit cards and sells gift cards in case you are looking for a gift for the movie lover in your life.

Capri Drive-In Theater

www.capridrivein.comIf you're in the mood for a road trip, about two hours west of Detroit in the small town of Coldwater you will find the Capri Drive-In, which is open seven days a week, rain or shine. The theater was opened by John and Mary Magocs in summer 1964, and its two-screen lot can fit about 900 cars. The theater has also now switched over to digital screens/projection. Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages five to 11 and kids younger than five are admitted for free. The sound for the movies is broadcasted over FM stereo to your car or portable radio; if you have neither, the Capri rents portable radios for $2.
