Whether you're a beginner just starting to dabble in the kitchen or a you are a seasoned cook who is looking to expand your knowledge by trying some new techniques or recipes, taking a cooking class can be a fun and rewarding experience. Check out our list below for five of the best cooking classes in the Greater Detroit Area that will help you whip up some wonderful dishes while you have a great time.

The classes at Taste: A Cook's Place are demonstration-style and run from approximately 6:30-9 p.m. on designated class dates. Each class features a themed menu and students will be served generous samples of all foods prepared. Classes are typically $60 and all participants will also receive full recipe print-outs. There is a 50-inch flat screen TV and cameras mounted so all seats have a great view of cooking as it's happening. The classes are located in downtown Northville at The Village Workshop (about a 30-minute drive from Detroit). You'll be armed with knowledge, menu ideas, and recipes for creating the dishes at home when you leave each class.

Great Lakes Culinary Center is a popular venue for wedding receptions and other types of private parties. But, they also offer popular, fun, and interactive cooking classes. GLCC boasts a "fully equipped professional mega kitchen." You can attend a scheduled class or book your own group lesson. Classes are led by professional chefs and instructors and are great for family fun, corporate team building, date night and more. These classes are hands-on – you'll learn how to prepare dishes in a fun, laid-back environment. Classes will resume after January 1st.

If you're looking for a relaxing, hands-on cooking experience for a private party of eight people or more, Cooking Experience is an excellent place to learn. You can also join a regularly scheduled class as space permits. The Kitchen Crew is a pop-up cooking school for kids in and around Metro Detroit that operates in local commercial kitchens throughout the area. Kids will learn how to make made-from-scratch food in a fun, educational environment. Age ranges vary per class and most classes are two hours. Kids work together to cook a full meal.
