Berkley Pizza Restaurant Damaged By Early Morning Fire

BERKLEY (WWJ) - Fire crews were able to contain an early morning blaze before it did too much damage to an Oakland County shopping center.

Authorities said no one was hurt in the fire that broke out just before 1 a.m. Tuesday in the club room at Crispelli's Bakery Pizzeria — a popular restaurant in Berkley Square, at the southwest corner of 12 Mile Road and Woodward Ave.

Sgt. Justin Frost with the Berkley Public Safety Department said an officers on a routine patrol spotted smoke and flames coming through the roof and called for backup.

"Berkley Public Safety, Huntington Woods Public Safety, Oak Park Public Safety and Beverly Hills arrived on scene — popped up a couple of aerials, sent attack crews in, knocked the fire down and kept it from spreading to other businesses," Frost said.

The fire was contained to Crispelli's club room, which was damaged by smoke and fire. There was some water and smoke damage as well to Uncle Andy's Pizza next door — but, other than that, adjacent businesses were left unscathed.

All businesses in the strip mall were unoccupied at the time, Foster said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
