Baseball Field To Be Named In Honor Of Officer Killed In Crash

HAMBURG TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A baseball field is to be named after a Hamburg Township police officer killed last year in a motorcycle crash.

WHMI-FM reports that the event honoring Sgt. James Sanderson will be held Saturday during opening day for the Pinckney Hamburg Baseball Softball Association at Bennett Park in Hamburg Township.

Hamburg Township is in Livingston County, northwest of Detroit.

Sanderson was thrown from the motorcycle after colliding with an SUV in September in Livingston County's Genoa Township.

The station reports that Sanderson was a 20-year veteran of the police department and was on his way to a police memorial service in Canada at the time of the crash.
