Detroit-area suspect barricades self after threatening man with knife

(CBS DETROIT) — Farmington Hills police responded to a report of an assault by a man armed with a knife Thursday morning.

Officers arrived in the 31000 block of 9 Mile Road after receiving reports of the alleged assault. While investigating, police say the situation escalated into a standoff situation.

Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King says a person requested a ride share, cut through a portion of a residential area and another neighbor took exception and threatened the individual with a knife.

Officers and members of the Oakland County Sherriff's Office SWAT Team stabilized the scene and eventually got the man out of the home and taken into custody.

No injuries have been reported. King says there was no danger to the public, and they did not evacuate any residents.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned Friday.
