Barney And The Gang Return In "Expendables 3" - Possibly The Best One Yet

DETROIT (WWJ) – For all of you die-hard action fans out there, "The Expendables 3" hits theaters today.

Is it possible that this, the third film in the hugely popular "Expendables" franchise, can be the best Expendables of all so far? Well, since I liked the first two a lot, that's hard to say, but this one has all the elements of a big hit: the action kicks in immediately, all the regulars are back - along with some new faces - and along with the shootings and explosions that are a part of every Expendables film, it also has just the right amount of humor.

This one I think we got the tone just right," said Sylvester Stallone, who stars as Barney Ross, the head of the Expendables and co-writer of Expendables 3 along with husband-and-wife screenwriting team Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt.

"It has the humor in it … to me it's not as wink, wink," Stallone went on to say. "It's retro 1980s, it's happening right now. When we bring in the young people, it keeps it fresh."

And fun, I might add, with "Expendables 3" poking fun at Wesley Snipes' legal troubles. Snipes' character, Doc, references the tax evasion conviction that put Snipes behind bars for three years. It's featured in a scene where Randy Couture's character, Toll Road, asks Doc: "So why did you get locked away?" His stone-faced reply: "Tax evasion."

But at that point, the funny is just beginning. There's much more sprinkled throughout Expendables 3. And I'm willing to bet that once you see the movie, you're going to want to watch Expendables 1 and 2 all over again.

Rated PG-13.
