Back To The Future With World Series Winning Tiger Team Of 1984
DETROIT (WWJ) - It'll be back to the future Monday night at Comerica Park.
It's a special tribute at the ballpark to the last Detroit Tiger team to win the World Series two decades ago.
WWJ's Sandra McNeill spoke with former pitcher Dave Rozema, who was a part of the winning 1984 season:
"The camaraderie - we had about 15 guys that played in the minor leagues - we had a lot of fun watching football ... just getting to know each other," he said.
One of his favorite memories, he told WWJ, was Gibby's (Kirk Gibson) home run and the celebration with the champagne spraying afterward in the clubhouse.
"I remember I got the owner really good," he laughed, "because I knew I was going to be gone the next year, free agency, so ...(the champagne went) into Mr.Campbell's and said congratulations guys and squish - hit 'em in the face and they went, 'oh my god does that burn' and I go 'see you next year.'"
Rozema started 16 games for the 1984 Tigers, compiling a 7-6 record and 3.74 ERA in 101 innings pitched.
Rozema will be among other players that will be greeting fans in the Big Cat Court between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Monday.
