AWOL Michigan Marine Who Threatened To Kill Wife Turns Self In

PONTIAC (WWJ) – An AWOL Michigan Marine who was the subject of a nationwide manhunt after threats were made against his estranged wife has turned himself in.

Oakland County Sheriff's officials confirmed that 21-year-old Clenard Gee-Simmons was taken into custody, Wednesday afternoon, in North Carolina.

Officials were worried Gee-Simmons might have been heading to Pontiac where his wife and her family live.

"The information the military gave us is that he had made statements or some kind of inclination that he was going to kill her, and he might be in possession of an AK-47," said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, speaking live on WWJ Newsradio 950 Wednesday morning.

Gee-Simmons' wife had filed for divorce just one day before he disappeared from a low priority lockdown unit at Camp Lejeune.

The woman and her family were placed in protective custody as a precaution.
