Authorities Seek Public's Help After 2 Grave Markers Found Misplaced

UNION TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities are asking for the public's help in their search for information about two grave markers found in central Michigan.

Isabella County Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski said the markers were found by a man walking along a road in Union Township. The man told authorities he first saw them a few weeks earlier.

The marble grave markers were upright and undamaged. Mioduszewski said they weren't visible from the road and were among pine trees on a drop off to the Chippewa River.

The markers are heavy and needed two people to pick them up to take them to the sheriff's department, Mioduszewski said.

The sheriff's department said Monday that it doesn't know where the grave markers were taken from. The markers are for Frank A. Tardiff, 1878-1950, and Cecil E. O'Donnell, 1907-1962. Neither of them died in Isabella County, according to county clerk death records.

The department is working with funeral homes in its search for family members.
