Authorities: Mother, Baby Killed In West Michigan Crash

HAMLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a woman and her baby are dead following a two-vehicle crash in western Michigan that left the baby's 7-year-old sibling in critical condition.

The Ludington Daily News reports 28-year-old Amanda Collins and 10-month-old Lillian Grace Collins died following the crash around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Mason County's Hamlin Township, about 80 miles northwest of Grand Rapids.

The other child, identified as Madysen Marie Church, was flown to a Grand Rapids hospital.

The car driven by Amanda Collins went across a roadway and into a snowbank, where it stopped in the path of oncoming traffic. A pickup struck the car on the passenger side.

Sheriff Kim Cole says distracted driving may have led to the crash. He says Amanda Collins had a pile of mail in her lap.
