Authorities: Hot, Humid Weather Calls For Caution

DETROIT (AP) — Authorities have urged people to take precautions as heat indices are expected to climb into the 100-degree range in parts of southern Michigan.

The city of Detroit has opened cooling centers in the Crowell and Heilmann community centers from noon until 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

State officials as well as those in Detroit and Grand Rapids are encouraging people to limit outdoor activity, cover windows, install air conditioners and check on relatives or neighbors who are elderly, young or sick.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for several counties along Michigan's southern boundary with Indiana until Saturday night.
