Authorities: 3 Charged After Stealing Motorcycle, Fleeing Police In Macomb County
CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) - Three men have been charged in connection with the theft of a motorcycle from an apartment complex parking lot.
Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham, a witness reported seeing some people loading a motorcycle into the back of a blue minivan at around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at Lakeside Village Apartments in Clinton Township. The witness thought it looked suspicious and called police, while the van left the apartments traveling east on Hall Road.
When a sheriff's deputy intercepted the mini-van as it passed near Groesbeck, the van's driver failed to stop and continues onto I-94, where it was eventually "boxed in" by additional patrol cars near Metro Parkway.
When the 2002 Pontiac van stopped, deputies found a 2004 Honda CBR 1000 lying on its side in the back.
Three men in the van were arrested at the scene and arraigned Wednesday via video in 41B District Court.
They are 18-year-old Shawn Daral Murphy of Detroit, 24-year-old Johnthan Doreal Dempster of Mt. Clemens, and 59-year-old Glenn Davis of Detroit.
All three are charged with unlawful driving away of an automobile (UDAA), which is a felony. Davis facing additional charges of fleeing and eluding and driving while license suspended.
Bond was set at $5,000 personal for Murphy, $7,500 cash or surety/10 percent for Dempster, and $15,000 cash or surety for Davis.
The motorcycle was recovered.
All three suspects are due back in court for a hearing no Wednesday, June 25.
