Michigan hospitals reporting disruptions due to Ascension cyberattack
(CBS DETROIT) — Ascension Michigan reported Wednesday that it is experiencing a disruption in its technology systems due to a cyberattack, which also impacted Ascension hospitals nationwide.
Unusual activity was dedicated on May 8, according to a release. Ascension initiated their investigation immediately.
The cyberattack disrupted clinical operations.
"Access to some systems has been interrupted as this process continues," according to the release from Ascension. "Our care teams are trained for these kinds of disruptions and have initiated procedures to ensure patient care delivery continues to be safe and as minimally impacted as possible."
In an update on Wednesday, Ascension said patients "should bring to their appointment notes on their symptoms and a list of current medications and prescription numbers or the prescription bottles, so their care team can call in medication needs to pharmacies."
The healthcare provider has notified authorities and is using a third-party expert, Mandiant, to assist with the investigation.
If any sensitive information is impacted, Ascension Michigan will notify those people according to legal guidelines.
The hospital system has also created a website to share the latest updates following the cyberattack.
