ArtPrize Announces 20 Finalists In Public Voting

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - Organizers of the ArtPrize art competition in Grand Rapids say the public votes are in for the 20 finalists vying for the grand prize of $200,000.

ArtPrize, which announced the finalists Sunday afternoon, says nearly 31,000 people cast roughly 377,000 votes in four categories. They are two-dimensional, three-dimensional, installation and time-based.

Finalists come from across Michigan, the Midwest and the U.S., and as far away as Italy. They were selected from 1,550 eligible works representing 48 countries and 42 states and territories.

The list includes four prize-winning artists from 2013.

The second round of voting runs through Thursday, and winners of both the public and juried awards will be announced Friday.
