Police Question, Release Person In Connection With Shooting Outside Eastland Mall

HARPER WOODS, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - One man has been slain and another arrested following a shooting outside a suburban Detroit shopping mall has been released Sunday afternoon.

A news release from the Harper Woods Director of Public Safety, Jim Burke, says that the suspect was let go after questioning Sunday by Harper Woods police.

Harper Woods Deputy Police Chief Ted Stager told reporters that the victim was shot multiple times just before 6 p.m. Saturday as he walked out of a store at Eastland Center, just northeast of Detroit.

He later died at a hospital.

Stager also said the shooting was not random.

Two people were shot near the mall in 2014. In 2010, a man was fatally shot in his car in the mall's parking lot. Two other men were wounded during another shooting at the mall in 2010.

Police do not have anyone in custody at this time.
