Apple Reports Record Earnings, Watch Release Date

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - The release of the new iPhone 6 smart phones was very, very good for Apple.
The Cupertino, Calif., based company reported a record quarterly revenue of $74.6 billion, which was fueled by record revenue from iPhone and Mac.
"We'd like to thank our customers for an incredible quarter, which saw demand for Apple products soar to an all-time high," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, in a statement. "Our revenue grew 30 percent over last year to $74.6 billion, and the execution by our teams to achieve these results was simply phenomenal."
The strong quarter was also fueled by record performance of the App Store and sales of the new 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus pushed quarterly sales of of iPhones to 74.5 million - which also is a new record for Apple.
A report by CNET stated Apple had strong demand for its Macintosh computers during the quarter, selling 5.52 million Macs, up from 4.84 million a year ago.
Not everything was rosy for Apple, reported a drop in iPad sales of 18 percent to 21.4 million, CNET reported.
During the earnings conference call, CNET reported that Cook stated that the Apple Watch will begin shipping in April, with the lowest model watch priced at $349.
When the Watch was unveiled in September, the "wearable" tech will come in two sizes and three different collections with the Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport and 18K gold Apple Watch.
Additionally, the Apple Watch will offer health apps which can monitor everything from pulse to the intensity of workouts; messaging by voice, popular responses, drawings made on the Watch and animated emojis and apps which include a check-in option for American Airlines and a parking app to help direct car owners back to their vehicles.
