Animals Safe After Fire Breaks Out At Oakland County Animal Shelter

AUBURN HILLS (WWJ) - Authorities say no animals with injured or killed by an overnight fire at Oakland County Animal Control and Pet Adoption Center in Auburn Hills.

Firefighters were investigating a report of smoke in the area of Silverbell and Brown Road when they spotted flames on the roof of the animal control building, located at 1700 Brown Road.

Extra crews were called to the scene and the fire was quickly extinguished.

"The fire was contained to the roof of an attached garage that houses an incinerator," police said in a statement. "All of the animals on site remained in their pins while the fire was extinguished. No animal was injured as a result of the fire."

Officials say the fire does not appear to be suspicious, although a cause remains under investigation.

The animal shelter is expected to be open for business Tuesday.

Fire personnel from Orion Township, Independence Township, Rochester and Rochester Hills assisted Auburn Hills firefighters on the scene.
