Amber Alert Canceled After 2nd Indiana Teen Returned Home Unharmed; 3 In Custody

INDIANAPOLIS (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say two teenagers who were reportedly abducted at gunpoint from their home in Indiana have been released unharmed and now three suspects are in custody in Michigan.

Indianapolis police issued an Amber Alert on Monday afternoon for 16-year-old Aaron Blackwell and 13-year-old Emma Blackwell, saying officers responded at 3:30 a.m. Monday after receiving a report that three men entered the home on Indianapolis' east side and took the teens.

Police said the teens were in "extreme danger" and that their mother was cooperating with authorities. The alert said Aaron was wearing a bath robe and Emma was in pink and white pajamas.

On Monday evening, police said the suspects had freed Aaron Blackwell after a high-speed chase in southwest Detroit. Several hours later, police put out a statement saying Emma Blackwell had "returned home safely" and was unharmed. Police did not give Emma's location but said more information would be provided after they spoke with her.

Detroit Police Sgt. Eren Stephens confirmed that three suspects are in custody in connection with the alleged abduction, although she declined to provide additional details.

Police have not released any information on the identity of the suspects, though they updated the information Tuesday afternoon with a press release that said drug-related motives were suspected. When the abductions were first reported, police said the crimes were not random and the victims were targeted. Reports indicate the abductions might be connected to the theft of $47,000.

An investigation is ongoing. Police said in a Tuesday statement the siblings are now in child welfare authorities' care "until detectives can determine they are no longer in danger."

Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact Indianapolis police at 888-582-6237.
