Agency: Detroit, Flint To Get More Funds To Fight Blight
LANSING (AP) - Michigan's housing agency says Detroit will get another $88.2 million in funding for blight elimination, while Flint will receive $17.6 million.
The Michigan State Housing Development Authority said in a news release that the U.S. Department of Treasury approved an allocation plan Wednesday under the Treasury's Hardest Hit Fund program. The federal government awarded Michigan $188.1 million in April, which the housing agency says it will use to continue to focus on eliminating blight and providing help to homeowners.
The housing agency says the remaining $11.7 million in blight funds will be given to other communities through an application process.
The $188.1 million adds to earlier-approved funding for a $74.5 million plan by the state.
According to the housing agency, Michigan originally got $498 million from the Hardest Hit Fund when it was announced in 2010.
