Agencies Offer Grants To Support Michigan Stream Cleanups
LANSING (AP) - Small grants are available to local governments that want to help clean up Michigan's rivers, streams and creeks.
The Department of Environmental Quality and the Great Lakes Commission plan to divide $25,000 among selected applicants. Those who receive grants are expected to match at least 25 percent of the money.
The local agencies can team up with nonprofit organizations or other volunteer groups.
The program is funded with fees from sale of Michigan's specialty water quality protection license plates, which are available from the Secretary of State's Office.
The application deadline is Jan. 25. Officials with the DEQ and the Great Lakes Commission will announce winners in April.
