77 Inches Of Snow Has Fallen On Metro Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - If you're thinking that we've had more snow than usual this winter, you're right.
The National Weather Service says, as of Tuesday morning, 77.3 inches of snow had fallen on metro Detroit.
Monday night's storm brought three to four inches of snow to areas including Ann Arbor, Farmington and Dearborn; while there were higher totals down river and in Monroe County with Wyandotte and Dundee picking up around five inches.
In Mid-Michigan, seven inches is reported in Midland and 6 inches is on the ground near Frankenmuth.
The latest snowfall has made this the third snowiest winter ever in metro Detroit; after January was the snowiest month in Detroit history. The normal snow amount for a winter is 42.5 inches.
AccuWeather says metro Detroiters can expect a break from the snow this week — but there is some rain in the forecast.
Temperatures will inch up about freezing Tuesday afternoon, and then slip down to about 30 degrees overnight. AccuWeather Meteorologist Joe Sobel says we'll get up t0 38 degrees. "And then we get to 40 and above Thursday! But Thursday also looks like a drizzly, rainy, foggy day," he said.
Don't put the parka away, though, just yet. Sobel says temperature will drop back down into the 30s on Friday, and continue the downward trend into the weekend.
