70-Year-Old Woman Leads Police On Chase; Stolen Meat Among Shoplifted Items Found

JACKSON, Mich. (AP) - Stolen meat and other shoplifted items valued at about $1,000 have been recovered after a 70-year-old southern Michigan woman led police on a car chase through several communities.

The Citizen Patriot in Jackson reports Wednesday that Jackson County deputies spotted the woman's 1989 BMW Tuesday night while responding to a retail fraud report.

Deputies chased the BMW at speeds above the posted limits. Stop sticks placed onto the roadway in front of the vehicle were used to deflate the BMW's tires.

Undersheriff Christopher Kuhl said a "large quantity of stolen meat," various electronics and a vacuum cleaner were in the trunk.

Kuhl said investigators believe the meat was stolen over a few days from multiple grocery stores.

The Jackson woman was being held in the county jail.
