55-Year-Old Man Fatally Shot While Driving On Gratiot In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are searching for suspects after a 55-year-old man was killed in a shooting on the city's east side.

Detroit Police Sgt. Cassandra Lewis said it happened along Gratiot Ave. at around 10:40 a.m. Thursday.

"It appears that our victim was driving the green Navigator that you see over there; and, at some point, received a gunshot wound to the body," Lewis said. "And then the vehicle rolled back to the place where it's resting."

Reporting from the scene, WWJ's Vickie Thomas said the Lincoln Navigator jumped the curb and came to a stop when it rear end struck a metal fence surrounding the Sho Go used car lot.

The driver, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was not immediately clear if this was a drive-by shooting or if the shooter might have been on foot. There had been no arrests as of Thursday afternoon.

Police have not released any details about potential suspects or a motive in the killing.
