4 Northern Michigan Tornado Touchdowns Confirmed

LANSING (WWJ) - The National Weather Service has now confirmed two more tornado touchdowns in northern Michigan — bringing the  Labor Day total to four.

One touched down Monday in Crawford County; the other in Cheboygan County.

The Crawford County twister, with winds of 100 miles per hour, was rated EF-1. It touched down near Frederic and was on the ground for 13 minutes.  At one point it continued across I-75.

Damage consisted of snapped and uprooted trees as well as roof damage to one residence and damage to a barn, the National Weather Service reported.

The Cheboygan County twister was an EF-0 — the weakest rating — and was only on the ground for a minute.  Sporadic tree damage was reported.

Two other tornadoes — one in Otsego County and another in Kalkaska County — had already been confirmed, Those two twisters hit heavily wooded areas and caused some property damage but no injuries. Wind speeds of 100 miles per hour were recorded.

To the south, flooding closed some roadways.
