4 Michigan College Students Take Plea Deals In Hazing Case
SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) - Four Saginaw Valley State University students have accepted plea agreements following a hazing incident involving their fraternity.
Tevon Conrad, Laurence Dunn, Trevor Hoskins and Maurice Polk Jr. initially faced felony assault charges that carried maximum penalties of 10 years in prison.
The Saginaw News reports the members of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity pleaded no contest Tuesday to misdemeanor counts of aggravated assault and conspiring to commit hazing causing physical injury.
A 22-year-old student alerted campus police last fall after sustaining an injury that caused him to lose consciousness. He said it was caused by the men, who often struck fraternity pledges with open hands or a wooden paddle.
Prosecutors plan to recommend that the judge hand down one-year "delayed sentences" for the men.
All of them remain free on bond.
