3rd Man Sentenced To Prison In Christmas Eve Killing Of Detroit Musician

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Devan Williams — one of three men convicted in the Christmas Eve killing of a Detroit musician — has been sentenced to 11 to 40 years in prison.

Anthony Tolson was ordered out of his Chevy Trailblazer and shot three times after performing at a church service on Dec. 24.

Williams, 28, was one a trio charged in connection with the carjacking and killing. Police say they wanted the expensive rims on his SUV.

Co-defendant 19-year-old Darnell Young of Inkster was sentenced to 33-60 years in prison after pleading guilty to second degree murder.  Charles Cox, 33, earlier this month was sentenced to life prison without parole after being convicted of first-degree murder.

Tolson was on his way to his mother's home with gifts for his three children the night he died.

He played bass guitar and had toured the world with some of the music industry's biggest artists.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig said and outpouring of tips led to the arrests.
