3 People Injured In Shooting At Southfield Bar; 2 Suspects At Large

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Police are looking to speak with anyone who was at a Southfield bar overnight when a gun battle broke out, leaving three people with injuries.

The incident unfolded around 12:45 a.m. Saturday at Bar 7 on 12 Mile Road just west of Telegraph Road.

"When the officers arrived, they found that there was one person -- a 53-year-old man from Southfield -- who was suffering from a single gunshot wound to his thigh," Lt. Tedd Goff told WWJ's Erin Vee. "He was transported to Providence Hospital by the Southfield Fire Department."

While officers were on the scene investigating, they learned there were two additional victims who had been driven to the hospital in a private vehicle. Officers responded to the hospital and located a 28-year-old Detroit man, with a gunshot wound to the thigh, and a 25-year-old Southfield man with an unconfirmed gunshot wound.

"The 25-year-old man had an injury to his arm which may have been caused when he was grazed by a bullet, or it may have been caused during the chaos of trying to get out of the restaurant and he simply could have just cut his arm -- the hospital wasn't sure," said Goff.

None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

Goff said a preliminary investigation revealed that there were two gunmen, one of whom was involved in an altercation with one of the victims prior to the shooting.

"There were two people who fired their guns, they were in the bar together," said Goff. "There were punches thrown back and forth and then the two men who fired their guns, pulled out their guns and fired several shots. The first suspect fired into the crowd and the other, it looks like, fired his gun up in the air."

After the shooting, the gunmen fled along with the other panicked bar patrons.

The first suspect is described as a black male with shoulder-length dreadlocks. At the time, he was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt. He fled the scene in an older, dark-colored sedan, possibly a 1997-2005 Chevrolet Malibu.

The second suspect is described as a black male wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans. He fled the scene in an unidentified vehicle.

Police have photos of the first suspect and investigators are currently working to obtain pictures and video of the second suspect, as well as the vehicles they used to flee the scene.

Investigators are now looking to speak with anyone who was at the bar during the incident.

"We're asking for assistance from anybody who might have information because of something that they heard what happened, or also anybody who might have been in the bar at the time it happened," said Goff. "There was a large crowd, it's a very popular bar, and we know that there are a lot of people who left before the officers got there."

Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 248-796-5500.
