3 Michigan Teens Face Terrorism Charge In Plot To Kill List Of Students

FLINT (WWJ) - Three teens have been charged as adults in an alleged plot to shoot and kill a list of students at two Genessee County schools.

Special Assistant Prosecutor John Potbury said the accused are 18-year-old Ryan Stevens of Linden, 15-year-old Lamar Dukes of West Bloomfield and 15-year-old Cody Brewer of Wolverine Lake.

They have been charged as adults with conspiracy to commit first degree murder and making a false threat of terrorism.

According to reports, an FBI investigation found evidence that the teens did have access to firearms. In investigation also revealed evidence of particular targets in the alleged plan to kill students at Linden High School and Linden Middle School, just south of Flint.

Talking to WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeill on Monday, Potbury declined to offer any details about the plot — other than to say authorities took the threat seriously.

"I'm not going to get into that," Potbury said. "All I can do is confirm is that they've been charged as adults. Now you're talking about two 15-year-olds who we have charged as adults, so I'll let you draw your own conclusions about how we perceived it."

Potbury said only Stevens is a former student in the Linden school district. So how did the other two get involved?

"That will all come out during the court proceedings. I'm not sure of the relations, but they all know each other," he said.

Potbury said shootings were planned to take place the day before Halloween.

Stevens is lodged at the Genesee County Jail. Because of their ages, Dukes and Brewer are being held at the Genesee Regional Detention Center in Flint.  All three boys face life in prison if convicted.
