3 Men Chased By Police, Arrested For Stealing $70,000 Worth Of Wire

HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- After leading police on a two-mile chase, three men were apprehended and arrested for a string of wire robberies near Holly early Friday morning.

The investigation revealed that the men had stolen wire from the American Aggregate of Michigan, located across a field from where the suspects' vehicle was parked in Holly. Around $60,000 to $70,000 worth of wire that was stolen from the business was recovered from the suspects' vehicle.

An on-duty officer saw an unoccupied vehicle parked on a private road with the hood up. A nearby resident said that the vehicle had been in the area several other times over the past month and always has the hood up.

A check of the registration plate revealed that the vehicle and owner matched the description of a suspect in several larcenies in Springfield Township and Independence Township. Deputies then saw three subjects get into the vehicle and leave the area into Rose Township.

Police pulled the vehicle over after failing to stop a stop sign, but the vehicle refused to stop. A pursuit continued for two miles, before the suspect vehicle turned onto a dead-end street and crashed into a ditch.

Two of the subjects were taken into custody without incident, while the third fled on foot. A K-9 deputy tracked the subject for two miles, when the scent was lost and the track ended. Fenton police and state police formed a perimeter and the third suspect was found walking down the road by officers and taken into custody.

Officials were able to determine that the men were also involved in the larcenies of wire from the same business on Jan. 3 and on Jan. 9. The men were held at the Oakland County Jail, pending the issuance of warrants.
