3 Detroiters Charged In Memorial Day Robbery Of US Service Members

DETROIT (WWJ) - Three young Detroit men are facing multiple charges in connection with the armed robbery of four U.S. service members on Memorial Day.

Anthony Jonvion Smith and Jawan Spears, both 19, and Mark Hansford, 21, were each arraigned Tuesday on four counts of armed robbery, one count of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and felony firearm. Smith is also charged with felon in possession, and Hansford is additionally charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

It's alleged that on May 30 around noon, the defendants robbed four U.S. service members -- ages 28, 26, 19 and 21 -- at gunpoint in the area of Santa Maria and Meyers, just east of the Lodge Freeway on the city's west side. No one was injured.

Smith and Hansford were ordered held on a $100,000  bond, while Spears received a $250,000 bond. All three are due back in court for a probable cause conference on June 8.
