21-Year-Old Man Dead, Woman Arrested In Shooting At Wixom Apartments
WIXOM (WWJ) - A woman has been arrested after a 21-year-old man was fatally shot Friday in Wixom.
It happened at around noon, police say, at the Meadowood Park apartment complex at Sprucewood Dr. near 12 Mile and Wixom Road.
The relationship between the suspect and the man who was killed is unclear at this time, as is any possible motive.
Police say they are investigating the case as a homicide as they work to find out what exactly happened and why.
"This was not a random act," said Lt. Ron Moore. "The public needs to know that the public safe and that we do have the person we believe to be the shooter in custody."
One neighbor talking to WWJ's Jon Hewett said she heard a scuffle inside another unit through the apartment walls.
"It woke me up. It was like a whole wall came down, because we have a wall in between our apartments," said the woman, who declined to give her name. "It just kept getting louder and louder...there was a big bang. So I called my neighbor upstairs to see if she was OK or if she had an emergency or something."
"She didn't pick up the phone — so I rushed out of the door, and the paramedics came and were like, 'Get inside. Lock your door. Get inside, lock your door!'"
Neighbors described the woman involved as being in her later 30s or early 40s. Some said she and the victim were dating, although police did not immediately confirm that fact. Moore said she was taken to the Wixom Police Department.
Police said two young children who were in the apartment at the time were unharmed. They were expected to be released into the care of either relatives or Child Protective Services.
No names have been released as an investigation continues.
