20-Year-Old Ex-Con Charged In Critical Wounding Of 2-Year-Old Lansing Girl

LANSING (AP) - A 20-year-old ex-con has appeared in court on accusations that he accidentally shot and critically wounded a 2-year-old Lansing girl.

Jaylen L. Briggs of Lansing was arraigned Monday on charges of carelessly firing a gun causing injury, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed weapon and possessing a firearm while committing a felony.

Lansing District Court Magistrate Laura Millmore set his bond at $15,000 and scheduled his next court appearance May 1.

Court records don't show a lawyer for Briggs.

Police say the girl was shot Friday evening. They say she was conscious when police arrived and was in critical but stable condition at a hospital.
