2 women killed in fiery crash on Detroit's east side

Detroit man rescues driver from burning vehicle

(CBS DETROIT) - Two women were killed and a man was injured early Thursday morning in a fiery crash on Detroit's east side.

Detroit police say the crash happened around 3:16 a.m. in the area of Mount Elliot and Forest when a black Ford Fusion and a white Chrysler 300 collided.

The driver of the Fusion was ejected from the vehicle, while her passenger was trapped inside as the vehicle caught on fire. Both women were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Frank Crosson, who lives across the street from where the crash happened, jumped in to help immediately before first responders arrived.

"As soon as I got ready to sit on the bed, I heard a big boom, and I looked out the window and I saw two cars over there," said Crosson.

Crosson and another neighbor were on the scene and attempted to get the two women to safety.

"That's just me," said Crosson. "You're supposed to help people when they're in need, and they were in need, so I had to help them."

The man driving the 300 was injured in the crash and was taken to an area hospital. His condition is unknown.

Crosson said he worked with his neighbor to drag the man out of his vehicle's window.

"If we hadn't gotten him out of there, he would have burned up in the car because his car caught on fire as soon as we got him out and blew up," said Crosson.

Police are working to determine the cause of the crash.
