2 Sentenced To Prison In Assault On Disabled Man Posted To Facebook

PONTIAC (WWJ/AP) - Two young men accused of beating up Pontiac man with cerebral palsy and recording the attack on his cell phone have been sentenced to prison.

Court records show Shadeed Bey and Nikey Walker, both 20 years old, pleaded no contest to charges including assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder as part of a plea agreement.

Bey was sentenced Tuesday to prison for 8-20 years and Walker received 6-20 years.

Bey told the court: "I'm sorry for what I did."

A no contest plea isn't an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing.

Authorities say Bey beat the 23-year-old  man Nov. 29, 2015, at the Phoenix Place Apartments in Pontiac while Walker recorded the attack.

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies, called to the scene on reports of an injured man, found victim lying in front of an apartment. The suspects, it was later discovered, had posted video of the beating both to the victim's Facebook page and to their own pages.

Following Walker and Bey's arrests, Sheriff Mike Bouchard called them "cowards," adding that, "Preying on those in our community who suffer from disabilities will not be tolerated."

Cerebral palsy is a brain disorder that can affect movement, posture and muscle coordination.
